About Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib
Gurdwara Janam Asthan also referred to as Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib, is a highly revered gurdwara that was built at the site where the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak. Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib is a holy place where the founder of Sikh religion, the dispeller of darkness, the most enlightened global Guru, Guru Nanak Dev ji was born early in the morning to Mata Tripta Ji and Mehta Kalu Ji on 15th April, 1469 (Baisakh sudi 3, Samwat 1526).
Nankana Sahib is a city in the Pakistani province of Punjab, Earlier known as “Rai Bhao di Talwandi”. It is names after the first Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev, the first guru of the Sikhs and the founder of Sikhism who was born here in 1469, so Nankana Sahib is a city of high historical and religious value and is a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs from all over the world. Nankana Sahib City is also the capital of Nankana sahib District and Tehsil.
Nankana Sahib History
Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib is a city and capital of Nankana Sahib District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is named after the first guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji who was born in the city and first began preaching here. Nankana Sahib is a town of Gurdwaras (Sikh temples), the most important of these being the ‘Nanak’s Ayan’ called Janam Asthan or Birth place of Nanak. Guru Nanak passed his whole childhood and young age in Nankana Sahib. Guru Nanak dev ji passed his whole childhood and young age in Nankana sahib Gurudwara.
At the occassion of Guru Nanak’s anniversary, about three thousand Sikh devotees from India visit Sri Nankana Sahib Gurdwara. Sikhs from all over the world come there too. The town has nine Gurdwaras including the Gurdwara Janam Asthan which marks the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev ji. The present status is Nankana sahib District has three tehsils: Nankana Sahib, Shah Kot, and Sangla Hill. Before December 2008, Nankana sahib District also included Safdarabad Tehsil.
How to travel to Sri Nankana Sahib Gurdwara
Sri Nankana Sahib Gurdwara is located about 80 kilometers south west of Lahore and about 75 kilometers east of Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib is in Sheikhupura district and is connected to the district town by rail and road. The city has a population of approximately 70,000.
